This
document assumes that you already have CBS up and running on one terminal which
will be acting as the server. You
will be adding a 2nd (or 3rd) terminal with peer to peer
networking. This document assumes
that the reader is familiar with peer to peer networking, drive mapping, etc.
If you are not familiar with these terms you should contact a computer
professional to set up your network for you.
On the New
Computer (Work station)
1)
Map a
network drive to the server. For
this example we will assume your network drive is mapped as F: although any
drive letter will work. If you have
a network administrator make sure he gives the new work station access to the
root directory of this mapped drive.
2) Capture printer ports as needed. In the Printers folder, add network printers as necessary. Right click on the network printer desired. Click on Details then on Capture Printer Port and assign the printer to LPT2. For Windows NT, 2000 and XP you will need to use the NET USE command to map printers.
Alternately,
you can change the CBS program to print to the default windows
printer. On any screen CBS prints from, under printer type,
click WINDOWS.
3)
Set an
environment variable. In the
Autoexec.bat file add a line SET
CBS=TERM2 (or TERM3 if adding a 3rd
terminal). In Windows NT, 2000 and XP you can also put environment
variables in the system by clicking on START => Control Panel => System
=> Advanced => Environment Variables.

4)
Install
the CBS software from the original disks to the default directory (C:\CBS).
This will add the necessary drivers and files to the \Windows\system
directory. It isn’t necessary to install any update disks – just the
original set is fine.
5)
Delete
the C:\CBS directory on the work station (make CERTAIN to do this on the
workstation – obviously you do not wish to delete the main CBS directory on
the server). If you aren’t 110%
certain about this step then STOP and consult a network professional.
If you are a network professional and you aren’t 110% certain then STOP
and find alternate employment in the food services industry.
6)
Change
the CBS shortcuts both on the desktop and in the START menu to point to
the mapped network drive F (F:\CBS\CBSWIN.EXE rather than C:\CBS\CBSWIN.EXE)
7)
Reboot
the work station
8)
Start the
CBS program on the work station, select Utility then System Settings.
Make sure the File Use is set to SHARED and the Internal Backup is set to
Disabled
9)
Set the
Printer type (Dot Matrix or Laser) and printer port (LPT1 or LPT2).
If necessary you may print to the default windows printer by setting the
Printer type to Windows however the print will be more readable if you can use
the built in font from the printer and print directly to the captured printer
port.
1)
Make sure
the Work Station is not running the CBS program.
2)
Add a
line to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file that reads SET CBS=TERM1
(this is an optional step as TERM1 is the default for the system.)
In Windows NT, 2000 and XP you can also put environment variables in the system
by clicking on START => Control Panel => System => Advanced =>
Environment Variables.

3)
Start the
CBS program on the Server, select Utility then System Settings.
Make sure the File Use is set to SHARED and the Internal Backup is set to
Disabled. You are now ready to use the system in networked mode.
