This document describes the procedure for
moving CBS from one computer to another computer.
If your new computer comes with Windows Vista you will need to purchase an upgraded version of CBS called Navicert.
If your new computer uses Windows XP you will be able to move your old copy of CBS to the new computer. Even if you are using Windows XP you may still want to take this opportunity to upgrade to the latest version of CBS.
Click Here for details on Navicert.
(Note: CBS Classic is NOT compatible with Windows XP Tablet Edition supplied on some tablet notebook computers. Tablet computers allow you to write directly on the screen with an electronic pen. If you have a Tablet PC you will need to upgrade to Navicert).
Please follow these steps EXACTLY
Note: This document is intended to assist your computer technician and is not intended for use by the average CBS customer.
1) Install CBS from your original CBS disks or CD to your new computer. If you can’t find your disks you may download a new copy here or you can order a new disk from us. If ordering, please allow 2 weeks for delivery.
2) Make a complete backup of the C:\CBS folder and the C:\AW folder on the old computer. Use a CD drive, Zip disk or other high capacity backup for this process as the files will be too large for diskette.
3) Copy the files from the backup in step 2 to the new computer. Overwrite the files on the new computer with the files from the backup.
Note that if you are using CD for the backup your files may become write protected. Check the file attributes to insure that all files are read/write.
Modems are a hassle. You are moving to a new computer... why not dump the modem and switch to Internet Submission?
If you are sticking with Modems, you will be using MSP's PC-Anywhere DOS based software. The PC-Anywhere software supplied by MSP is locked with an 8 character password. You will need to contact MSP to obtain this password and for assistance in configuring the modem on the new computer. Call the main number (787-3475) and ask for someone in "Systems". Please note that internal modems supplied with newer computers will not work with MSP’s PC-Anywhere. We suggest switching to a standard external serial modem (not a USB modem).
If you are using a new printer and your printer does not work you may need to switch the settings from Dot Matrix or Laser to Windows. This will instruct CBS to use your default Windows printer. Click on Utilities then System Settings and switch the printer type to Windows.
Your new computer probably doesn't have a floppy drive. If you are using floppy disks for backup you will probably want to switch to a high capacity backup solution like CD or DVD backup. In order to use a CD or DVD for backup you will need a software program. You can use Nero or any other similar program but CBS makes an inexpensive program that works great. For more information just click HERE.
Final note: If you need help please call us. Do NOT erase the old computer until you are certain everything is working perfectly.
